Trailer Time: "Lights Camera Blood!"

Down on his luck and financially strapped low budget horror filmmaker Mandalor is the laughing stock of the film community. His films are terrible and the contrived, poorly done gore-effects make them unintentional comedies of the cinema.

When he presents his latest effort to sleazy, exploitation film producer Gelstein of Gorrific Pictures with the hopes of getting a distribution deal, he is laughed out of the screening room.

The ever-determined Mandalor, along with his trusty hunch-backed cinematographer Rodney, set out to do another horror film but during the course of filming, as he tries in vain to direct an intoxicated and uncooperative actress he accidentally kills her. Rodney captures the dastardly deed on camera and Mandalor includes the graphic footage in his film and screens it to an impressed and delighted Gelstein who offers him a multi-picture deal to deliver more gore galore! A wretched plan hatches that only filmmakers with “nerves of steel” could carry out. Along with a hatchet or an cleaver...

Starring: Alan MacKenzie, Dan Baker-Moor, Kris Scoran, Heather Russell, Daphne Bradbury, Mat Andre, Shawn Kowalke, and Taggart Porter

People in the Dark

A pea-soup fog chokes London for the first time in sixty years and nobody knows why.

The phones have stopped working, the broadband is down, and what are the voices that tear through the night? The people know only that the fog has summoned back an older London, where the dead seem as present as the living. Why is everyone scared of the filthy old man in The Grapes? Why did he follow Bernadette to her favourite Kurdish cafĂ© in Hackney? And why can’t the Archduke Soupy van Brilliantine, pacing along a northbound platform of the Bakerloo Line, remember anything of his past.

Six lives intertwined; an aging rock-chick, a failing author, a charity supremo, a retired financier, a middle-class dope-head and an inept lothario – all go into the fog. Not all of them return. Only Alistair Hindmarch learns why the dead prefer the fog of London to the place they are supposed to be. And Alistair really wishes he hadn't.

The Excerpt
Chapter One
People in the Light

The end. They know it is coming and all across the city the parties are a little too loud, the laughter too shrill, everything forced a pitch too high. This brilliant, bright autumn cannot go on forever, these blazing days, this summer heat, the spectacular clarity of the air. London shines, it is crisp, as hard-edged as a world experienced through a new pair of spectacles. But yesterday was Halloween, for pity’s sake – it must end soon. The people sense that it is coming and they are right.

* * *

He is young, mid-to-late twenties maybe, three days’ growth of gingery stubble, tall and stooping and as inconspicuous as it is possible to be for a tall man dressed as a duck. His costume is yellow, once a bright synthetic yellow, but now a patchwork of low organic shades, matted and wet-looking. He carries a crumpled supermarket plastic bag that swings with the weight of the thing inside, swings at the pace of his long, slow strides, and he drinks from a can of Coke as he goes. In the same hand as the bag he carries the costume’s head. It might be an unlicensed Tweety Pie or a bootlegged Donald, it might be an attempt at a generic cartoon bird but, whatever, it is not a good attempt. He finishes his Coke, head back, Adam’s apple prominent on his long throat that is mottled by the heat and by the bothering ruff of nylon feathers. He drops the can into a bin by Islington Green and continues his measured walk northward, a huge string puppet loping up the Essex Road.

After a while he turns into a strange, winding little park, narrow and punctuated by man-made rock formations. In the quiet away from the main road he can hear children’s voices and, as he reaches the gate of the park, he sees them, a dozen little kids in an old-fashioned playground, a rare playground without chipped tree bark on the ground or machines made of minimalist tubing and sustainable timber. This park has missed its make-over, it has swings and a multi-coloured, sharp-edged helter-skelter, and the kid at the top of this sees the duck man and points, yells something to another kid. Not wanting to disappoint a playground full of children, the man puts on the head and walks at the same loose, easy pace, past the swings and the slide, waving to his audience. The kids wave back and some of them follow him to the gate where mothers and fathers turn them back, stop them going any further. Duck Man walks on, plastic bag swinging, and, despite the heat, he doesn’t bother to take off the head, not even when he has turned left, out of sight of the playground and into a complex of tall red brick buildings that are handsome but have about them the unmistakable downbeat rhythm of social housing. He turns another corner and stops at one of the older buildings where he takes a small bunch of keys from his bag and opens the door to a ground floor flat....

F#%k It - We're Upgrading this to a Hardcover!!!

Even though it hasn’t yet been unlocked as a stretch goal, we’re going ahead and publishing this as a hardcover instead of a softcover. Why? For two reasons, actually: Because we love you and because it’s something we want to do. Oh…and because “rules” aren’t really our “thing”.

What this means is that anyone who has already pledged to receive a softcover edition will now receive a hardcover edition AT NO ADDITIONAL COST, WHATSOEVER (this includes the shipping amount), instead. The hardcover edition will have two different covers; a “standard” cover (illustrated by Dave Johnson) and an exclusive, limited edition “photo” cover, featuring Jen & Sylvia Soska in costume as The Sister Sisters (the homicidal twin nuns featured in the story), that includes a slipcase.

School Mystery Meat

Meet Amy Butler. Though her life consisted of school, friends, and sneaking cigarettes in the forest-no one knew about the real her. Nobody knew about the monster behind closed doors; unless they wanted to be the next person on her plate.

Check out this review…

"This was an interesting book that follows the teen girl, Amy as she discovers the only way to satisfy her insatiable hunger is to dine on human meat and being a bit awkward and shy, Amy never finds herself in shortage of finding someone worth her plate. If you enjoy series like Hannibal or Dexter then this is definitely the book for you."

Why Horror?

How did we come to this? What was the journey taken to bring us here? Why do we look upon an open grave as an opportunity? Why do rotting corpses, animated and not, draw from us a smile? Why do shadowy wisps of ectoplasm bring us joy and hope?

I am fascinated by shadows and I know you are too.

Horror is not for everyone; not even in passing. Horror is not a hobby; it is a passion, a lifestyle and a direction of mind.

For example, the most delicious aspect to the Food Channel involves cutlery; true or false? Be honest. Be deeply true and honest with yourself. Doesn’t that clever inspire you?

When I was a child of five my first finger painting assignment was finished quickly. While my classmates took due care in scrawling the likenesses of their families and pets; their homes and yard; their leafy trees, gardens and the golden sun, mine stood apart.

I am no artist. I can only draw stick figures --- badly and even obscenely. What set my painting aside was something else; a surprise to my friends and family no doubt, but something I automatically knew and was drawn to do.

My painting was black. It was all black. It was nothing but black end to end and side to side. Every space on the yellow construction paper including the corners and edges were covered. So were my fingers and palms as I smeared the black paint obsessively and thickly to be make sure nothing of light shown.

Then each of my classmates, alphabetically of course, shared their bucolic lives; their happiness and story book perfection. When my teacher reached the “P’s” the mood of the day changed significantly.

Teacher: “Okay Joseph what exactly did you draw?”

I was eager to share. I was proud to be asked. This was to be a watershed moment in my little life. The words spilled from my tongue with glee.

Me: “Death. This is death.”

My feet never touched the ground as my teacher tightly grasped my right wrist as she ran to the principal’s officewith me in tow. With the painting in my left hand I could have been mistaken for a kite.

In succession, the principal, then my parents and soon the Board of Education’s psychologist saw and studied my masterpiece and heard my oration. And what was the result of this incident?

No institutionalization; no drugs; just a suspension from ‘Chiller Theater’ and the ‘The Twilight Zone’.

No matter I still had my dreams…

How did we come to this? What was the journey taken to bring us here?

Nature; it is our nature deeply imprinted on our DNA, residing deep within our guts, flowing through every artery and blood vessel. It is nature.

Our nature; horror is what we breathe; what we taste; what we see and hear. Horror is us and our thoughts and imaginations.

Horror is our wonder and humor. It is our comfort in the night. It demonstrates our ability to expand our minds over the drone of saccharine.

Horror allows us to transport ourselves from the day to day to explore the depths of humanity and existence, the mystery that is man in a more meaningful way than any ‘Hallmark’ movie.

Why horror? Because my friends we are fortunate and blessed.

Holiday Slasher: All Through the House in Post-Production

Holiday Horror 2015 “All Through The House”

Los Angeles, CA, 3/2/15 – The Readmond Company has teamed up with Director/Writer Todd Nunes to bring you a terrorizing, blood-soaked Christmas slasher. ALL THROUGH THE HOUSE  stars scream queens Ashley Mary Nunes (SYFY’S ROBOT COMBAT LEAGUE), Jessica Cameron (TRUTH OR DARE), and Jennifer Wenger (JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE). The film’s gory special effects were created by Tommy Pietch of SYFY’S FACE OFF and STAR TREK: RENEGADES.

ALL THROUGH THE HOUSE is an 80s-style slasher film featuring a deranged Santa Slayer who rips through the town of Napa for some yuletide-terror.

Fifteen years ago, a peaceful Christmas neighborhood was engulfed by fear when five-year-old Jamie Garrett was mysteriously taken from her bedroom never to be seen again. Now on Christmas break, Rachel Kimmel comes home from college to find her neighborhood struck again by a reign of terror. A violent killer is hiding behind a grisly Santa mask, leaving a bloody trail of slaughtered women and castrated men to the steps of the Garrett house. Rachel finds herself in a horrifying nightmare as she discovers the twisted secret behind the mask.

“This slasher has been brewing in my mind since I was a kid,” says Director/Writer Todd Nunes. “It’s not a rehash of popular Christmas horror movie subplots, like punishing the naughty, Santa obsessed psychos, or death by antlers. This is a dark, scary, violent story that delivers on a big bloody body count, beautiful girls, and lots of terrifying action. It’s everything I love to see in a horror movie - every murder is shown on screen and the anti-hero is a killer with a diabolical, sadistic mystery.”

“Although I loved my character because she is strong and complex, I’m really drawn to the twisted and crazy characters she meets in this movie,” says actress Ashley Mary Nunes (as Rachel Kimmell). “The Killer in ALL THROUGH THE HOUSE is disturbing, gross and really unique - I’m fascinated by the depraved impulses. I know that everyone is going to love all the gore and violence, but there is also a twisted mystery that ties it all together like a big Christmas bow.”

ALL THROUGH THE HOUSE was shot in 21 days in the summer of 2014 in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Lake Arrowhead, CA. The 95 minute film finished post-production in February, 2015. Director/Writer Todd Nunes graduated with honors from The Los Angeles Film School and studied screenwriting at UCLA's Writers' Program. This is the first film by Santa Monica-based The Readmond Company.

FULL CAST: Ashley Mary Nunes (ROBOT COMBAT LEAGUE), Jessica Cameron (TRUTH OR DARE), Melynda Kiring (THE FOG LADY), Jennifer Wenger (JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE), Natalie Montera, Lito Velasco, Jason Rayer, Johanna Rae (NATURAL BORN FILMMAKERS), Cathy Garrett, Matt Poeschl (ENTOURAGE), Danica Riner, Kelsey Carlstedt, Lyndon Laveaux, Justice Lee, Sarah Miller, Milijana Riner, Noah Boylen, John Nunes, and Sky Boylen.

Boxhead

There's a place...

...Beneath the facade of normalcy.
A place that crawls with our deepest fears and darkest desires.

Built of longing and regret.

Sometimes, the things we try to hide away in that place don't fit, and spill over...

Sometimes, our nightmares breathe.

Flesh of my Flesh premieres in Tigard

FLESH OF MY FLESH PREMIERES APRIL 25, 2015

Hellbender Media announces today the premiere of Flesh of my Flesh.
Flesh of my Flesh, Portland’s own “home-grown” epic zombie adventure is Hellbender Media’s second feature, and chronicles the last hours of The Great Zombie War, through the eyes of the hapless people stuck in the middle. Flesh of my Flesh premieres April 25, 2015 at the Joy Cinema in Tigard.

"With Flesh of my Flesh,” says writer/director Edward Martin III, “I wanted to try and do something different, to explore this entire genre from a perspective that I haven’t already seen a million times. So, that was my first driving force — tell this tale as if this isn’t the same old Zombie Apocalypse tale, but something entirely different. Then, something strange happened. I started talking to people who had historical background in strange happenings, and people who had biological backgrounds. One thing led to another and all of a sudden, it’s not just a zombie movie at all, but more like a terrifying adventure into a kind of Where Did All These Legends And MythsReally Come From place. And then once we started shooting and the actors brought this all to life, I knew that it wasn’t just the creatures that had a life of their own — the movie did too!”

The Joy Cinema has long enjoyed a reputation for showing eclectic strange movies, and is the perfect place for the premiere. “The Joy is basically my favorite theater, and [owner] Jeff makes no bones about being a part of the filmmaking community as much as he is a local businessman. I’m really, really glad we’re showing there,” adds Martin.

Flesh of my Flesh premieres April 25 at 4pm at the Joy Cinema: 11959 SW Pacific Hwy, Tigard, Oregon 97223. Doors open at 3:30. Ticket price: $8.00

If you’re on Facebook, sign up for the Premiere Event!
