Reacciones Adversas (Adverse Effects)

Daniel is a young man suffering from low self esteem, who is incapable of defending himself from the abuses of employers and of society in general. He is medicated with antidepressants to make his monotonous life more bearable; however, far from helping him, the medication worsens his condition with hallucinations and psychotic thoughts of vengeance that lead him to a state of total confusion.

It has also been getting some great reviews:

“Adverse Reactions”, a new film from Mexico that is slightly reminiscent of Polanski’s “The Tenant”... The film is rife with imagery & dialogue that afterwards will have you thinking. The film can be dissected in various ways but I doubt that there will be a general consensus as to what’s real & what isn’t in the end. It’s the kind of movie that will create debate and that’s a great thing. It’s what’s necessary in a film like this for it to succeed. Director/Writer David Michan has crafted a delirious fever dream of a movie that will have people talking for a long time afterwards.

Top 5 TIFF 2012

Adverse reactions (r David Michán, 2011, Mexico) is a kind of modern Diary of a madman. In a plot reminiscent at times of Franz Kafka or David Lynch, Daniel (Hector Kotsifakis) embarks on a journey of magic and psychology that are mixed with the paranormal. The film is basically a one man show, though animate, to conquer huge sacrifices that are not missing. A possible dilemma of the film: madness region belonging to psychological or psychic being? Quotation from William Blake, somewhat deterministic but very eloquent, recalled a time when black movie, says it all: "Some is born for sweet delight, Some is born for endless night." Autoscopiei scene and the people sitting Corporate cardboard seem very successful. Conversations with dog-killer (superego or subconsciously?) Reminded me of Mr. Rabbit from Donnie Darko.
