JFR Productions has released the teaser trailer for
its upcoming action horror thriller Dick Johnson and Tommygun vs. The
Cannibal Cop, which begins filming in Buffalo, New York next
month. The film was written by John Renna, who will co-star with Sam
Qualiana (Snow Shark, The Legend of Six Fingers)
as mismatched police detectives hunting the titular cannibal. The cast
also includes Debbie Rochon (Dry Bones), Danny Hicks (Evild
Dead 2: Dead by Dawn) and Timothy Patrick Quill (Army of Darkness).
Renna will co-produce and co-direct with Chris Rados (His Name is
Clownface) of WNY Grip & Lighting.
“The
teaser shows the vibe we’re going for,” says Renna. “A 70s cop
film blended with 80s horror and 90s action flicks. Chris will
be shooting much of the film since I’ll be on screen most of the time with Sam.
We’ve got a really tight unit here in Buffalo, and plan to deliver a
movie fans of all these subgenres will love.”
In the film, which purports to be based on a true story, Hicks plays
Captain Phil Philips, who assigns straight arrow Dick Johnson (Qualiana) and
wild card Jeff “Tommygun” Thompson to solve a series of gruesome murders
which may lead to the department’s front doorstep. Rochon plays Yvonne,
an insider who may hold the secret to the mystery, and Quill plays Shabby
Sammy, a shady character who leads the detectives through Buffalo’s criminal
underworld.
Renna,
who is also a special make-up effects artist, intends to use squibs for the
massive shootout scenes rather than use digital blood, and he and Rados intend
to track how much red stuff they splatter. When production wraps, they
will spearhead a drive to match the same amount of blood for UNYTS Resources in
Buffalo.
“We’re
making this film in our home town and want to do something positive for the
community,” says Rados.
