A
Beast is Lurking in the Underground
San
Francisco, CA - 10/24/2013
"The
Beast In Heat" is a San Francisco made, horrifying melodrama written and
directed by San Francisco Art Institute alumnus, Anthony A. Russell. The
movie's cast and crew were pulled from a talented cache of SFAI's alumni and
faculty- including renowned underground filmmaker Mike Kuchar. At 8pm on October
24th Artists’ Television Access, an experimental cinema located at 992 Valencia
Street, will host a sneak preview for the benefit of press and peers.
For
further insight regarding the film’s experimental process, elaboration on
themes and influences, anecdotes, or any other considerations, contact Anthony
A. Russell by email at whereisanthonyrussell@gmail.com
or by phone at (949)275-2875.
Russell
draws much of his inspiration from the critical theories of writers such as
Michel Foucault, Hannah Arendt, and Judith Butler. “The Beast In Heat” is not
only a faithful homage to sensationalist genre pictures, but also a meditation
on ideas concerning gender, identity, and power currently prevalent in the San
Francisco Art Institute’s academic culture.
As a feature-length horror film composed by zealous, Bay Area
filmmakers, “The Beast In Heat” is a celebration of local, young talent that is
faithfully aligned with San Francisco’s history of producing challenging,
underground cinema.
