October
2, 2014 (Los Angeles, CA) - After 7 awards and countless nominations from
several film festivals around the globe, Joe Randazzo's "Ripper" is
coming to life in 2016, courtesy of Chicago based Bat Country Films. The
acclaimed script, about a New York City college professor and his star pupil
investigating a series of murders in Brooklyn, has already brought a great
ensemble of indie film talent aboard.
Helming
the project, his second feature film, is two time Emmy Winning Director Michael
Gibrall, whose impressive first feature "Available" has been setting
the festival circuit on fire with 9 wins, including the coveted Gold Remi for
Dramatic Feature at WorldFest Houston, an award previously won by filmmakers as
distinguished as Steven Spielberg, David Lynch, and Francis Ford Coppola. He
was drawn to the project after reading it while a screenwriting judge in 2012,
"Ripper is easily one of the best horror scripts I've read in my years of
judging at the Eerie Horror Fest."
Justin A. Martell, best known for producing Lloyd Kaufman's acclaimed
2013 hit "Return to Nuke 'Em High: Volume 1," is on deck to
co-produce the film along with Sean Steffen, producer of the short comedy
"The Perfect Candidate."
Catherine
Corcoran of the Troma/Starz co-production "Return to Nuke 'Em High"
has signed on to star as a college student obsessed with a series of murders in
Brooklyn that have more than a slight resemblance to the infamous Jack the
Ripper Whitechapel murders, while her Nuke 'Em High co-star Vito Trigo provides
the love interest as a morgue attendant who eagerly helps her on her search for
the killer.
Veteran
character actress Lynn Lowry, best known for her roles in several cult classic
films, including David Cronenberg's Shivers and George A. Romero's The Crazies,
has also signed on as Amanda, the pretty bookwormish owner of a Lower East Side
book store.
The
film has some eye catching preliminary poster art by Vernel McDade, which you
can see on this page.
Merchandise
featuring the artwork, including t-shirts, banners, hoodies, and posters of all
sizes, is available at cafepress.com/rippermerchandisestore.
All proceeds from the sales go into the making of the film.
