Like
Van Helsing in the famous novel, a team of UK filmmakers is to hunt Count
Dracula, or more accurately, his family. Production company Seraphim
Pictures is crowdfunding its feature-length documentary I Am Dracula, which will see a team
travel to Romania to discover and interview the current descendents of the
historical Count Dracula - Vlad the Impaler. The film will meet with
members of three families with a claim to the name, as well as genealogists and
Dracula historians to assess whether a direct blood line exists, and if so, who
carries it today.
The
film is the brainchild of company directors Daniel Lyddon and James Morgan, who
felt that with Universal Pictures soon to release Dracula Untold - a film which
draws heavily on the history of Count Dracula - this year would be the perfect
time to delve into his family tree - the so-called
"Draculesti". Daniel Lyddon had this to say:
"We
were inspired by Universal Pictures taking their cue from the real-life Vlad
Dracula and thought we might take it one step further by looking into his
present, as well as his history."
The film will be released on multiple Video on
Demand (VoD) platforms before the end of the year to make the most of public
interest in the subject matter following the release of Dracula Untold.
