In
the wake of Columbine, this line of dialog sent a chill down the writer's
spine... because he knew it would keep happening. This was not your usual Hollywood
attempt at capitalizing on topical angst and suffering. Instead it was a
independent movie put together one small piece at a time to expose the disturbing
trend that’s become so evident today. It has kept happening - why?
Writer/director Tredwell-Owen doesn't claim to have all the answers but
ventures that this is a new response to an age old dilemma - "as a
teenager, you are trying to define and distinguish yourself amongst your peers
- historically that peer group has been our school, neighborhood - our local
community. Now, with social media, teenagers measure themselves against a global
community, all trying to stand out as individuals. It begs the question - what
does it take to be someone in the 21st century?" The film "Profile
Of A Killer" was his conduit to exploring this question in a thought
provoking manner and as critic Next Projection notes “ The most impressive
element of Profile Of A Killer is it’s ability to raise the relevant questions it
does without forcing opinion down the throat of its audience.”
