A new book series combining horror and pump in a way
that will make your arm hairs dance around like crazy.
“Picture
Bill & Ted (Excellent Adventure) writing a horror story. That’s the closest
I can come to describing the Kickstarter for Spooky Basement, a goofy romp
through a psychedelic dark side. If you’re into pump, dude, here’s your ride.” -Terry Moore (Writer/Artist of Rachel
Rising, Echo, Strangers in Paradise)
From the depths of Clay Astroman's Spooky Basement come twelve books
guaranteed to get you scared/pumped!
Here’s
a look at what a few of the books are about…
1. One
Night in Monsteropolis- When Baron and his best friend/guitar Garindax get
sucked into a portal while attending a birthday party, they are transported to
the kingdom of creeps known as "Monsteropolis." There, they tear
apart a haunted hotel, race hoverboards across graveyards, and fight in a
gladiator match against the one and only Boogeyman. Will the duo be able to
battle their way back to Earth in time to kill some cake, or will they rot
forever under Monsteropolis' black-lit sun?
2. It
Came from the Walk-In Fridge- At PizzArea 51, something is growing in the
walk-in. It looks like a mushroom, smells like a mushroom, but it most
definitely isn’t a mushroom. Ralph, a disgruntled teen employee,
adds the organism to pig-faced, jean jacket-wearing Bruno's pizza, morphing the
bully into a monster who terrorizes the town and starts to wail on Ralph even
harder. Eventually, Ralph realizes that the only way to defeat Bruno is to join
him. When he find a mutagenic mushroom of his own to eat, will it transform him
from a wimp into a monster more powerful than Bruno, or will he simply melt
into a puddle of neon snot?
3. Escape
from Sideburn Mountain- A group of college buddies take their annual summer
trip to Sideburn Mountain, famous for its chiseled peaks, reddish lakes, and
sideburn-looking tree slopes. What the crew doesn’t know is that Sideburn
Mountain is also infamous for its blood gators, rock monkeys, beer
spiders, and violent inbred rednecks. Who will survive, and what will be left
of their gear/butts?
4. I
Remember Halloween- Victor, token nerd of his fraternity, used to love
Halloween. But somewhere between childhood and adulthood, Halloween changed. It
became less about candy and pranks, and more about sex and vomiting. Bummed and
bored at a Delta Epsilon Delta mixer, Victor decides to take back the night. He
re-engineers his costume to give him the appearance of a kid, and then he hits
the streets one last time. But Victor’s night is filled with more tricks than
treats as he encounters steroid-fueled bullies, annoying hippie witches, and
mustached kidnappers. This night, anything goes; will Victor recapture his youth,
or will his burning body hang from a pole?
5. The
12 Hits of Christmas- When Kristy accidentally kills Santa after mistaking him
for a home invader, a holiday hit is put on her head and it's not long before
mafia elves and mutant reindeer are knocking at her chimney. It’s a good thing
Kristy is a master of traps since she’s used to living “home alone.” Will she
be able to save her life andChristmas by making a wish on the wedding day of
Don Krampus’ daughter, or does that have nothing to do with this story?
6. Cathode Ray Terror- Hipster Rez can’t wait to try the latest
drug, ooze stick. But after just one terrifying toke, he’s transported directly
into his ironically-purchased CRT TV. Armed with a remote control and drug
paraphernalia, Rez must survive an entire night of Spookelodeon broadcasting,
including cartoon Skin and Stumpy, game showLegends
of the Sacrificial Temple, comedy Salute Your Severed
Head, and horror showYou Are Definitely Afraid of the
Dark. Will Rez be able to channel surf his way back into
his parents’ basement, or will he condemned to an eternity of snow and static?
