Jackie
Kong Presents COEXISTENCE
“NOT
your mother's ROMEO AND JULIET.”
Nick
Krause, Bella Thorne, Rutger Hauer, Daryl Hannah & John Savage star in
Jackie Kong’s vampire film
August 6th, 2013 - Cult film director Jackie Kong (THE BEING,
NIGHT PATROL, BLOOD DINER) is back, and you won’t believe what
she’s doing this time! Her newest film is a modern-day love story
ripped from the pages of classic literature starring Nick Krause (THE
DESCENDENTS) and Bella Thorne (Disney's SHAKE IT UP), with Rutger Hauer (BLADE
RUNNER, TRUE BLOOD), Daryl Hannah (KILL BILL), and John Savage (THE DEER
HUNTER, THE THIN RED LINE).
After
a long absence from directing genre films to work as an activist at non-profit
Asian-American Media Development (AAMD), Jackie’s back with a brand new
romance/horror tale that will breathe new life into vampire movies while
reviving her talent for bringing shocking imagery to the screen.
COEXISTENCE
is a full length feature horror film set in modern-day wine country, Sonoma,
California. Currently raising finishing funds (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jackiekongfilms/coexistence-the-movie),
COEXISTENCE contributors can win rare autographed stills from Kong’s cult
classic films BLOOD DINER and NIGHT PATROL, exclusive frame-able production
stills from COEXISTENCE, signed posters, tickets to the first official
in-person screening of BLOOD DINER with director Jackie Kong since the film’s
1987 theatrical release, and tickets to the theatrical premiere of COEXISTENCE
with cast and crew in attendance.
Two rival California winemaker families, the Moldavis and the
Cabochons, once great friends, have grown to hate each other after a terrible
and unforgivable event nearly destroyed them both. The truth, if known, could
heal the split, but exposing it would reveal an even darker and more mysterious
secret that could completely destroy both families. Young and handsome Romeo
Moldavi clandestinely attends a lavish costume party at the Cabochon’s Chateau
where he meets and falls deeply in love with Juliet Cabochon: sweet, pretty,
and his family’s sworn enemy…
If
you think this story sounds familiar, you’re right, but keep your preconceived
notions of this Shakespeare classic checked at the door. While true to the
spirit of the story, this modern telling has some (vampire) bite and more than
a few surprises that will shock you; this is NOT your mother’s ROMEO AND
JULIET!
“ROMEO
AND JULIET is a well-known love story,” says director Jackie Kong, “But my take
is full of surprises. Just when you think you know what’s going to happen,
strange things happen; at the same time it keeps the same tone as the
original story. This story is known world wide, yet I defy the audience to
predict what will happen next…”
Even though the main protagonists in COEXISTENCE are teenagers, this is
not a tween TWILIGHT-style movie. “I’m not just catering to teenagers,”
explains Kong, “but because Romeo and Juliet are in their teens, teens will
watch it. But I have seasoned performers (like Rutger Hauer and Daryl Hannah)
and their parts are really juicy.”
Jackie
Kong is involving the online public this time around by raising some production
funds publicly on Kickstarter, and contributors will be able to take an
active part in the film. She challenges those who want to see this film to “Get
involved and come on the set!” All the fans of BLOOD DINER, NIGHT PATROL, and
her other cult hits who have missed her, and fans of the cool stars onboard what
is destined to be another classic, finally have a chance to be a part of a
Jackie Kong Film!
