Wrestling
legend’s “Rowdy” Roddy Piper’s died peacefully in his sleep, the opposite of
how he lived his life as a force of nature who wore a kilt and famously smashed ‘Superfly’ Jimmy Snuka in the head with a coconut on television in July
1984. Piper was pro-wrestler, know as much for his boisterous mouth as for his
skill in the ring and was the reigning king of wrestling from 1973-1987 in the
NWA, Pacific Northwest, California and most notably in the WWF in the 80’s.
“Rowdy” Roddy Piper’s final interview was on the set of the horror film,
The Chair, in which he plays a viscious guard named Murphy. Piper was
interviewed on set by Robert ‘Corpsy” Rhine, who is also an actor in The Chair,
and an Executive Producer of the film. The Chair is directed by Chad
Ferrin and producer by Peter Semeti. Piper has appeared in other horror films
and starred in the 1988 John Carpenter cult classic sci-fi film “They
Live.” Watch the trailer for The Chair (with Roddy Piper): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_VwSqO35OE
Based
on the Alterna Comics graphic novel of the same name, THE CHAIR follows the
story of Richard Sullivan, an innocent man struggling to escape execution on
death row. Witnessing the savage killings of his fellow inmates at the hand of
the prison's sadistic and psychotic Warden, Sullivan decides that the only way
to survive is to fight back. But as he matches the brutality occurring in the
prison, Sullivan is forced to come face to face with his sanity and his own
horrifying past. (See photo of Roddy Piper from the Chair attached)
