Mandra
Pictures has released the “first look” trailer for the upcoming zombie web
series, Project: Phoenix.
The series stars Lee Meriwether (Batman),
Sherilyn Fenn (Twin Peaks), James Logan (Hunger
Games: Catching Fire), Golden Globe winner Susan Blakely (Rich Man,
Poor Man), Ian Roberts (Superman Returns),
Linc Hand (42), Kathy Deitch (Broadway’s Wicked and
Footloose), Rachele Brooke Smith (Bring It On: Fight to the
Finish), Justin Welborn (The Signal),
and Shanda Lee Munson (The Beautiful and the Sublime). The
project is written, produced and directed by Chad Darnell (Birthday Cake).
The
six (6) episode series follows an off-the-grid black ops organization’s search
for an anti-viral, in order to stop an impending zombie apocalypse. The micro
series (budget: $12,000) was funded entirely by supporters of the project’s
Indiegogo campaign.
The trailer is available on the Project: Phoenix website
at projectphoenix.tv. The series will be released on Sunday, April 20, 2014 and
is a co-production with Zombie Bake Shop, an exclusive web channel for “zombie
snacks,” or short films about the undead.
“I wanted the look of the series to feel like a
graphic novel come to life.” said Chad Darnell. “We made this show for fans
horror, zombies and sci-fi. There are a lot of plot twists and a lot of
questions in the first season, some of which will be answered in a graphic
novel, to be released on the Project: Phoenix app
this summer. The app will also stream all the episodes from season one and an
exclusive behind the scenes look at the making of season two, which will begin
shooting in September.”
Mandra Pictures’ feature film Birthday Cake (the
award winning feature film follow-up to the short film Groom’s Cake)
will be released on May 20, 2014 through Ariztical Entertainment. The film
follows the three days leading up to the first birthday party of a child with
two gay parents. The film stars Rib Hillis, Chad Darnell, Peter Paige, Helen
Shaver, Jane Badler, and Lee Meriwether.
