The Smoker and The Dame Who Wore Red Shoes

The Smoker and the Dame who wore red shoes is a new feature film written and directed by Ciaron Davies. With the look of a 1940’s comic book and combining film noire, science fiction and fantasy, this film is incredibly visual, psychologically driven and a real roller coaster ride from start to finish.

Our story begins in The City of Dreams, where a strange Detective, down on his luck and full of demons, is approached by The Dame, a beautiful and mysterious woman who is searching for her missing father. Thrown into the mix is a magical book, and a blend of intrigue, suspense, action and comedy. It’s a blend between ‘Cassablanca”, “The Matrix”, “Bladerunner”, “Pirates of the Caribbean”, and “Doctor Who”.

In essence it is a film about the duality of human nature, the forces of good and evil and the disintegration of society. The roles are challenging and intense and full of conviction. The film it self is incredibly stylised and has a very definite look. We wanted to create a futuristic fashion style, based on Film Noire of the ‘1940’s Hollywood age, but projected into the future, drawing on Science Fiction imagination and many aspects of Western cinema, European Cinema and Asian Cinema.

Elegant, sexy, stylish, and mysterious and danger are key words.

The film was filmed entirely against green screen in Ireland and has the look and feel of a comic book. Actors came from all over the globe to perform in the movie from countries including Japan, Spain, America, Poland, Africa, England, Australia and of course, Ireland! It has a truly international feel.
