award winning Brazilian horror feature Beyond the Grave (2010) is
available for free on Hulu.
The film collected 14 international awards plus selections for more than 80
film festivals around the globe, including Sitges Film Festival and Chicago
Latino Film Festival. Written, produced and directed by Davi de Oliveira
Pinheiro, Beyond the Grave (aka Porto dos Mortos) tells the
surrealistic journey of an unnamed police officer (Rafael Tombini) through the
empty highways of a post-apocalyptic world. The man seeks revenge against a
magical serial killer known as the Dark Rider. Hulu Plus subscribers
can watch it in HD and with no adds.
Beyond
the Grave is the feature directorial debut of Pinheiro, whose
background includes the production of documentary features and short films. The
fantasy short The Soul Detective (2009), directed by Pinheiro and
starred by American filmmaker David Lynch, is among his credits. Beyond
the Grave was shot in the south of Brazil in 2008 on a self-financed
budget of US$ 150K and gathered a crew of more than 100 professionals. The
feature film debuted in 2010 and since then has gained its cult status among
film festivals and Internet critics with its mixture of art-house horror, road
movie and spaghetti western.
