HUSH

HUSH is a classic heart pounding horror short film currently playing film festivals worldwide.

Starring: Alexandra Grace, Riley Connor and Kira Halling

Directed and written by: Michael Kehoe

Here is a brief reflection of the “HUSH” process from Michael Kehoe…

“After writing the script “HUSH”, I spoke with my DP JOHN CONNOR, he and I had started to shoot a tribute to TONY SCOTT, a director we both idolize. Unfortunately,  our schedules changed during the shoot and we had to cancel.  I had just finished writing HUSH and we decided to shoot a small scene within the movie to use as a promotion for financing. At no time did we intend to put it out to the public.  About a week after post production, we were approached by a financier that wanted to fund the entire picture privately. We scheduled, storyboarded, scouted locations, began a cast list and we were in full preproduction. 4 weeks prior to shooting our financier fell off the face of the earth. A horror story within a horror story! So, at that point, my DP and my Editor MICHAEL TRENT suggested that we just put it out as a short film. My first film SECOND DANCE was a short film that was in Sundance years ago so, I thought, it would only be the cost of submissions and we can send it out and see what the public thinks. This was frightening to me as it was like putting my child out in the cold!

The story of HUSH was inspired by true events that occurred in upstate NY. I had trouble in the way I would introduce the entity that possesses the house. I remember, my twin boys that are 12 years old now, when they were young would ask me to look in the closet and then under the bed before turning off the light. I heard that there was an urban legend and people who made short films on YouTube about the same moment. So, I wrote that moment in the script to introduce the malevolent entity. We decided to shoot without any lights and only a flashlight as well as the flash-box outside the house for the lightening effects. We also shot the sequence in anamorphic which gave us a spectacular look. I compliment my DP for that decision! And as I mentioned, after the financing fell through we hit the festival world and have been graciously accepted with such great accolades."
