Books & Boos, 514 Westchester Road,
Colchester, is hosting all-day fundraiser on June 22 to benefit late author
Rick Hautala’s widow and sons. Hautala, who was known in the writing community
as “the other horror writer from Maine,” passed away unexpectedly on March 21
he let his life insurance lapse. His wife and children have been struggling
since his demise, and have faced surmounting bills, including burial fees.
To help, the independent bookstore has put
together an all-day fundraising event.
Fourteen authors are scheduled to appear,
including Bill Rockwell, Monica O’Rourke, Brian White, G. Elmer Munson, Stacey
Longo, T.T. Zuma, and many more. Over 35 silent auction items will be available
to bid on throughout the day, including signed 8x10s of William Shatner, Walter
Koenig, and George Takei; handcrafted jewelry; a writer's basket of goodies; a
rare Outer Limits figurine; a basket of books; original photography by Linda
Orlomoski of Norwich, and many other incredible items. The event will include
free food, balloons and temporary tattoos; your chance to win a giant
inflatable beer mug full of books; entertaining panel discussions; and
giveaways throughout the day - including t-shirts, posters, books, and more!
Auction items can be seen here, http://www.booksandboos.com/1/post/2013/06/holly-newstein-hautala-fundraiser-auction-items.html.
Panel discussions scheduled for the afternoon
are Scary Screens: Horror Movie Panel from 1 – 2 PM, Favorite Books of All Time
from 2 – 3 PM, and Ghosts in the Attic: My Paranormal Experience from 3 – 4 PM.
This event is free to the public and all ages are welcome. Donations are
encouraged but optional.
