Alchemy
has acquired all North American rights to revered horror auteur Rob
Zombie’s 31,
starring Sheri Moon Zombie, Richard Brake, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, Jeff Daniel
Phillips, Lew Temple, Meg Foster, and Malcolm McDowell. The film is currently
in production in Los Angeles. The announcement was made today by Alchemy CEO
Bill Lee.
“It goes without saying that Rob Zombie is a true artist and master
filmmaker at the height of his game,” said Bill Lee. “With 31 he’s
creating yet another terrifyingly immersive and twisted world that will delight
audiences. Alchemy’s mission is to connect exceptional storytellers
with existing and new fans, and we look forward to doing so with Rob’s latest
work.”
“I
am thrilled to work with a company sharing the same vision for my film 31 as I have,” said
Zombie. “Alchemy has committed to bringing the most intense experience possible
to the screen.”
From
the brilliant mind of horror master Rob Zombie comes his most nerve-shredding,
high concept experience yet, in which five unwitting friends are plucked
from their lives and plunged into a terrifying game of death.
In
addition to writing and directing 31, Zombie also produced the film with Andy
Gould, Matthew Perniciaro, Michael Sherman, Eddie Vaisman and
Mike Elliott. Mike Goodridge, Buddy Patrick, Robert Ogden Barnum and
Kevin Frakes serve as executive producers.
Alchemy VP of Acquisitions Jeff Deutchman negotiated the deal
with UTA Independent Film Group on behalf of the filmmakers. Bow and
Arrow Entertainment and Spectacle Entertainment Group are producing the picture
alongside Protagonist Pictures, who are additionally handling international
sales.
Zombie
is represented by UTA, manager Andy Gould and attorney David Fox.
Alchemy
most recently acquired the timely documentary ROLLING PAPERS and riotous
action-comedy MOONWALKERS at this year’s SXSW Film Festival.
Today’s
acquisition follows the recent rebrand of Millennium Entertainment as Alchemy,
a name that embodies the company’s goals of uniting storytellers and their
audiences in one dynamic community as well as the belief that conventional
distribution strategies must evolve to represent the future of screen-based
storytelling—wherever that screen may be.
Additional executive producers on 31 also include Robert
"Corpsy"
Rhine, Bradley Curneal,Blayne Fender, Brain Slagel, Eric
Thirteen, and Chris "Woody" McElroy.
