Mini
Zombie Con celebrates #1 show on TV
LAS
VEGAS - Nov. 25, 2013 WALKING DEAD is the hottest show on television. It
has a legion of fans who tune in every week to see what newest struggle awaits
the show's heroes in the zombie apocalypse. Something new has been rising up in
conjunction with these episodes - the WALKING DEAD Viewing Parties. This is a
phenomena whereby a group of fans gather in a public place to watch the newest
episode together. In Las Vegas the WALKING DEAD Viewing Parties are at
Hi-Scores Bar-Arcade and have taken on the vibe and energy of a mini zombie
convention. Zombie Zone, Zombien Nation, Zomby Vegas, LVL Up Expo, and Cosmic
Comics are among the merchants who set up each week and bring out their WALKING
DEAD and zombie gear. Fans come dressed up as their favorite character - or
zombie - from pop culture. A trivia contest is held during each commercial
break where fans can win a variety of prizes, there are raffle drawings all
night long, and there is even karaoke hosted by Karate Karaoke after the
episode until the end of the night.
The
fun kicks off at 9pm with Sirc Michaels and the cast of EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL
serving as hosts. They are available to take pics with fans, get people excited
for the upcoming episode, and set the tone of excitement or the evening.
For
those fans who worry about watching an episode in a loud rowdy bar - never fear!
The episode is shown on every screen in the bar and the sound is played over
every speaker. Fans quiet down for the episode itself so every walker groan,
every thunk of a knife, every hiss of a crossbow bolt can be heard.
There
is nothing like this event anywhere in Las Vegas, and now that the mid-season
finale is coming, the party on December 1st will be even wilder. Fans who
attend will be offered tickets to see EVIL DEAD the weekend of December 6th.
There will be more prizes, more madness, and even an appearance by the entire
cast of EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL - including everyone's favorite hero Ash.
"There
is nothing like these events anywhere in town," said Sirc Michaels,
producer and director of EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL. "From the unqiue and fun
merchandise to the costumes to the karaoke to watching the episode with a room
full of fans, the energy and excitement at these things is something you have
to experience to believe."
With
all those people and activities, it would be easy to image that hearing the
show itself when it is turned on would be a challenge. But according to
Michaels, that couldn't be further from the truth. "There is a great
amount of noise and activity from 9pm to 9:30pm, which is the warm-up before
the episode itself. Once 9:30pm hits, WALKING DEAD is shown on over 2 dozen
screens - including a giant screen in the video game room - and everyone quiets
down to watch. Except for the cheers, gasps, and applause at the big moments,
which really heightens the entire experience of watching this show."
During
commercial breaks, Michaels and Ash from EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL present trivia
questions and give out prizes ranging from original artwork to WALKING DEAD
merchandise to comic books to packs of tickets to EVIL DEAD. Fans compete for the
prizes, which adds an element of fun to the proceedings. Once the episode is
over, the party continues with karaoke, photo opportunities, and shopping until
at least midnight.
"The
WALKING DEAD episode is the heart of the event," says Michaels, "But
it is by no means the entirety of it. There is stuff to do before and after the
show, and we try to make it as fun as possible for everyone who comes
out."
