Tricia
Lee is fast proving that horror is no longer just for the guys. As part
of an increasing number of strong female voices working in the horror and
thriller genre, Tricia Lee has come out as a vocal and innovative creative
force, staking her claim in the male dominated landscape. As the appetite
for female-centric horror films grows, Tricia’s blend of strong female characters
and compelling stories complement the blood, guts, and terror with genuine
emotional resonance.
Fresh
off the film festival success of her first two movies, Silent Retreat and Clean Break, Tricia Lee and A Film
Monkey Production are gearing up for their third feature, One Drop. Lee is currently
looking for financing to tell the story of a woman who overdoses, and wakes up
in a medical facility only to discover that everyone is dead and she’s nine
months pregnant. Working once again with long time collaborator, writer
Corey Brown, Lee can’t wait to take the audience on another terrifying journey.
One
Drop is
launching after a busy two months for director Tricia Lee.
October
saw the world premiere of Silent Retreat at Toronto After Dark where it won The
Best Canadian Feature award. It earned high praise from many critics
including Rue Morgue Magazine which said “Silent Retreat beautifully blends
supernatural horror with the terrors of the real world...”
One
premiere wasn’t enough for Lee. Her film Clean Break also celebrated its
world premiere in October at The Atlanta Horror Film Festival, where it won the
Best Drama Feature award. In November, it had its Canadian premiere at
The Blood in The Snow Festival in front of a sold-out crowd. There it
earned strong reviews, particularly for Tianna Nori’s portrayal of Tracy, the
perfect girlfriend with a murderous appetite for perfection.
Several
recent articles, including Meredith Borders recent posting on http://badassdigest.com/,
are asking “Where are the Female Horror Filmmakers?” Tricia Lee is proud
to answer, “Right here!” and with the recently announced anthology film XX, featuring stories directed
by some of horror’s greatest female directors, it’s clear that the female
horror community is answering just as loudly. For Tricia Lee, coming off
the one, two punch of Silent Retreat and Clean Break, it is thrilling to see
this shift in the genre landscape, and she’s excited to scare audiences again
with her next film.
