Award-winning
director Mia Sorensen to helm adaptation of “Evelyn Grace” for THOMAS
TESSIER’S WORLD OF HURT anthology
NEW
YORK, NY, March 4, 2014—Producer, director, editor and technologist Mia
Sorensen is set to adapt Thomas Tessier’s short story “Evelyn Grace” from
his Ghost Music (Cemetery Dance Publications) collection. Sorensen is
the second of five directors signed to the THOMAS TESSIER WORLD OF HURT project.
“Tom
can do what some writers can’t,” Sorensen said, “making seemingly ordinary
interactions sinister; finding terror where we least expect. ‘Evelyn
Grace’ is without exception a signature piece of Tom’s work and why I love it
so much—how a simple moment in time can quickly devolve into something truly
terrifying.”
When
Evelyn Grace, 38, is found dead of a drug overdose, Tim LeClerc, a high school
acquaintance, attends her wake and is surprised to find that only her parents
are in attendance. They confess they haven’t seen their daughter in years, so
to comfort them, Tim embellishes the extent of his friendship with Evelyn. But
eventually the horrible and deadly truth comes out. Sorensen will
write and direct the Tessier story in 2014.
Chicago-based
Mia Sorensen, who has been mentored by Edward Albee, has had her work appear
alongside the likes of Irvine Welsh at the NY International Fringe
Festival. After 10 years of directing and producing commercials for
the likes of Sony, Mercedes, and Kodak, she spent time on President Obama’s
successful re-election campaign, working on short form documentaries on policy
as well as intimate portraits of the President and First Lady. Currently she is
working on Years of Living Dangerously, a documentary series
for Showtime which is executive produced by James Cameron and
provides first-hand reports on those affected by, and seeking solutions
to, climate change. For more information about Sorensen, visit http://miasorensen.com/
